May Reading Wrap-up

Sadly, I only read two books in the month of May. I always forget how crazy the month tends to be! School was ending, I was moving into a new house, and I started a new job all in the span of a couple weeks. However, the two books I did read, I LOVED!

This month, I read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and You Are Only Just Beginning by Morgan Harper Nichols. These are two very different books from very different genres!

Pride and Prejudice was my first Jane Austen experience, and I adored everything about it. I am so excited to continue reading more of her novels. I love the elegancy of the language, the serious (and sometimes complicated) relationships between the characters, and the plot in general! The only negative thing I have to say about this book is that I struggled with keeping the characters straight. There were so many characters that were introduced, and it was difficult to keep track of how they were each related to the others. For example, the book is centered around one family of all daughters, so there were times throughout the novel when they would all be referred to as “Miss Bennett”, making it a little challenging to decipher which sister they were referring to! But as long as you’re into the book and following along, you should be fine! Though the amount of characters was challenging at times, I thoroughly enjoyed watching all of their relationships unfold. It was so incredible to see how everything tied together at the end. I rated this book 5 stars!

You Are Only Just Beginning by Morgan Harper Nichols is the third Nichols book I have read. This book is her newest collection of poetry, and it is just as enchanting as the rest. Morgan Harper Nichols is unique in the way that she uses poetry to inspire and to leave her readers with hope. While there is a lot of poetry in the world that accomplishes this task, there are several poets who focus on heartache and pain. I believe this form of poetry is beautiful too, but it often leaves me feeling hopeless about life and its outcomes. Morgan is unique because I leave her books feeling inspired and reassured that everything will turn out the way it was meant to. If you haven’t read any of her books, I highly recommend them! Her books are also a great introduction to poetry if that genre is a little intimidating to you. I rated this book 5 stars!

While I didn’t read all of the books I had planned for the month of May, I am still grateful that May brought me two 5 star reads! I loved being able to slow down and take my time reading these two books. However, I have a feeling I will be reading a lot more in June!
