Spring set her sights on summer
As an early Missouri heat
Embraced us unexpectedly.
Those winding lake roads were once again
Engulfed in seas of green,
The hot pavement shaded by canopies of leaves and
Towering trees.
My flowers, unlike years past,
Did not unfold their petals timidly.
No, they burst forth auspiciously,
Vibrant colors as far as the eye could see.
And I hope you know that you can bloom in this way too.
Unafraid, in your own way.
Embracing the sun, letting petals uncurl,
No matter how long that growth may take.
